ThemePortraits & People

Bartolomé Mitre appears beside his manuscript before the reverse returns to his Buenos Aires home, uniting statesman, writer and museum.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

Argentina's sixth president, Bartolomé Mitre, is portrayed beside the wrought-iron gate of his house and a handwritten page from Historia de Belgrano y de la Independencia Argentina. Blue, red and orange engraving separates portrait, manuscript and Spanish text. The watermark repeats Mitre with an electrotype BM.

Reverse

Museo Mitre in Buenos Aires occupies the reverse, accompanied by olive branches, a BM monogram and the Argentine national emblem. The building's restrained facade turns the former residence into a setting for historical memory. Warm red and orange passages interrupt the dominant blue and connect the architecture to the face.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, Mercedes Marcó del Pont and Julián Domínguez identify the seventh regular signature stage, recorded for Series K and M and introduced in 2013. The design had circulated through many earlier combinations without major pictorial change. Signature names and series letters are therefore essential, while the Mitre watermark confirms the underlying type.
