ThemePortraits & People

Belgrano's blue portrait gives way to Rosario's Monument to the Flag, joining revolutionary leadership with a monumental statement of nationhood.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

Manuel Belgrano appears in a formal blue portrait framed by acorn branches and finely layered guilloche. Spanish inscriptions and large value figures balance the composition around an open watermark field. The restrained palette keeps attention on Belgrano, creator of Argentina's flag, while ornamental counters give the broad format a disciplined rhythm.

Reverse

Rosario's Monumento a la Bandera stretches across the reverse beneath Spanish lettering and the Argentine national emblem. Its tower, sculptural masses and ceremonial setting convert the flag's history into architecture. Dense blue engraving links the monument to Belgrano's portrait and makes the two sides read as a single national narrative.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, this second signature form pairs Emilio Mondelli with Ricardo Antonio Cairoli and is recorded for Series B. It shares the undated design and 1974 introduction year with the preceding signature variety, so the names beneath the face are the decisive attribution point. Replacement notes use the separate R/A prefix-suffix convention.
