A troupial's orange breast almost disappears into the warm field, while its black head and wings sharpen the surrounding foliage.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

The Venezuelan troupial shares the upright composition with a burrowing owl and passion flower. The troupial's long beak contrasts with the owl's compact face; the flower adds a ring of narrow filaments among the broader forms of feathers and leaves. A smaller prikichi head changes colour beside the denomination, extending the bird imagery into the security printing.

Reverse

Broken pottery appears beside the repeated troupial. The surviving patterns and uneven edges of the fragments interrupt the flowing outlines of the bird and surrounding ornament. Worked clay brings a human presence to the wildlife design, with archaeology represented through objects rather than a reconstruction of the people who made or used them.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, the 25 florin preserves an established Aruban denomination within the wholly redesigned 2019 family. Comparing it with the preceding horizontal issue makes the change especially clear: the denomination survives, while the upright format gives birds and archaeological material much more room. It also offers a concentrated pairing for collections of owls and Caribbean birdlife.
