The spreading claws of a blue crab cut across a red field, carrying the shoreline into Aruba's old fortified town.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
A blue crab supplies the broadest silhouette, accompanied by a lizard and shoreline purslane. The vertical arrangement brings these small coastal subjects close enough for legs, claws and leaves to become the principal lines of the picture. Red printing holds the different forms together; the colour-changing prikichi head adds a small bird near the denomination.
Reverse
Willem III Tower rises above Fort Zoutman's cannon in Oranjestad. The upright format suits the tower's height, while a small crab above the architectural scene recalls the coastal subjects on the front. Stonework and artillery give this side a harder outline than the plants and animals opposite, placing the town's defensive architecture within the same compact island portrait.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, this denomination provides the architectural counterpart to the 2019 family's animal subjects. Fort Zoutman connects it with Aruban notes depicting other local sites. The printed January date belongs to a family released together in June, a distinction worth retaining when arranging first-year issues.
