Kusumba Mosque's terracotta prayer niche faces jute, boats and industry on a compact five-taka note rooted in work and worship.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

A terracotta mihrab from Kusumba Mosque in Rajshahi stands among shapla flowers, Bengali text and a subtle fish underprint. Brown engraving gives the prayer niche architectural weight without overwhelming the denomination. The roaring Royal Bengal tiger watermark and a narrow text-bearing thread occupy the surrounding paper.

Reverse

Jute leaves rise beside industrial buildings and two sailing boats, with the Bangladesh Bank emblem and bilingual inscriptions completing the scene. Agriculture, transport and production are compressed into one horizontal composition. The warm brown palette preserves continuity with the mosque detail while shifting the subject toward the working economy.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, the printed 2009 date is paired here with Atiur Rahman's signature, a combination introduced on 16 March 2010 and recorded for prefixes ঘদ to ঙঝ. That later signature, rather than the year alone, separates the variety from the earlier 2009 printing. The distinction is easy to miss when only the printed date is checked.
