Errol Barrow is remembered twice in orange: first as an engraved face, then as a statue overlooking Independence Square.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Errol Barrow's portrait occupies the upper part of the upright composition, accompanied by Barbados's arms and broken trident. As the country's first prime minister, he gives the denomination a direct association with independence. The orange field holds his likeness apart from the clear window, preserving a strong portrait even where part of the printed surface gives way to transparency.
Reverse
Independence Square in Bridgetown places Barrow's statue within a public space named for the political milestone with which he is associated. The monument shows him as part of the city's landscape, in contrast to the close view of his face opposite. Portrait and statue commemorate the same person through two familiar forms: the banknote likeness and the civic memorial.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, the 2024 printing records Kevin Greenidge's governorship within the polymer design launched two years earlier. It follows the Haynes-signed 2022 fifty and carries Greenidge's name as well as his title. The change is in the governor's inscription, not in the Barrow portrait or Independence Square reverse.
