The 100 Ngultrum features King Jigme Singye Wangchuck in the Raven Crown, with Tashichho Dzong on the reverse.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

The royal emblem and Norbu Rimpochhe, one of the seven auspicious gems, accompany a portrait of the fourth king, Jigme Singye Wangchuck, wearing the Raven Crown. The formal lettering around the image gives the portrait a clear institutional setting while keeping attention on the sitter’s expression and profile.

Reverse

Tashichho Dzong in Thimphu, the seat of Parliament, is shown beneath two dragons with Dzongkha and English text. Value markings are integrated around the architectural view, balancing practical information with a strong sense of place. The green and brown palette provides continuity between the illustration, typography and value numerals.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, P-18a is the De La Rue, fractional-prefix form of this 100-ngultrum design, using prefix G/1. It is distinct from P-18b, which was printed by Korea Minting and Security Printing and uses double-letter prefixes GA–GB.
