Design & Symbolism
Obverse
The royal emblem is centred between two facing dragons, with Dzongkha text and serial numbers. The composition relies on the emblem’s strong silhouette, with lettering and value indicators organised around it. The printed field uses brown and green to bind the central imagery to the monetary text around it.
Reverse
Simtokha Dzong appears with Dzongkha and English text and the denomination. The landmark supplies the visual structure of the side, with denomination and lettering fitted carefully into the remaining space. The use of brown and green creates a consistent ground for the illustration, official text and value figures.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, B202a represents the early Royal Monetary Authority form of the 2-ngultrum denomination: Ashi Sonam Choden Wangchuck’s signature, fractional prefix B/1 and De La Rue printing place it firmly within the first reduced-size RMA group introduced in the mid-1980s.
