The 2006 5 Ngultrum centres DeyNga sensory offerings between bja tshering, the mythical birds of long life, with Paro Taktsang on the reverse.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
DeyNga, offerings of sensory enjoyment, appear at centre between bja tshering, the mythical birds of long life, with an embossed cloverleaf. The composition balances its main imagery with compact typography and repeated denomination indicators. The yellow, brown, and red palette provides continuity between the illustration, typography and value numerals.
Reverse
Paro Taktsang, also known as the Tiger’s Nest monastery, appears with Dzongkha and English inscriptions. The composition gives the landmark room to read as architecture, while inscriptions and numerals complete the formal banknote field. Its yellow, brown, and red tonality carries evenly through the subject, inscriptions and denomination markings.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-28a is the original 2006 issue of this 5-ngultrum design, introduced on 20 November 2006 and signed by Chairman Lyonpo Wangdi Norbu. Unlike the 1- and 10-ngultrum denominations, the 5-ngultrum type remained a De La Rue paper issue through its later dated varieties, so signature and issue date are the main points of differentiation.
