Motsete's portrait and the angular reach of mining conveyors set music and industrial work against the same red ground.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Kgalemang Tumediso Motsete, composer of Botswana's national anthem, supplies the portrait. Beside him, the two zebras supporting the national arms introduce a sharply patterned counterpoint to the face.
Reverse
Conveyors cross the mining installation at Orapa, their long runs and supporting structures determining the direction of the scene. The angular machinery contrasts with Motsete's portrait on the front, bringing Botswana's diamond industry into the same design as the composer of its national anthem.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, the 2024-dated twenty belongs to the later Oberthur printings, not the original De La Rue production of this design. The Gaolathe / Dekop signatures and varnished strip on the reverse provide useful points of comparison with earlier notes. This is a production-stage distinction within a continuing denomination, with the familiar Motsete portrait retained.
