Design & Symbolism

Obverse

Débora Arango is portrayed beside La bailarina Guillermina and a bird taken from her painting Las Monjas y El Cardenal. Copper-to-green lechoso leaves and fruit animate the face, joined by a tactile denomination symbol. Arango's portrait and an electrotype 2 appear in the watermark reserve.

Reverse

The multicoloured riverbed of Caño Cristales crosses the Sierra de la Macarena landscape beneath several flying birds. Interview text associated with Arango and the Liberty-head bank seal connect artistic voice, institution and place. The fuchsia-to-green windowed thread contains demetalized BRC lettering and repeating bird elements.

The celebrated Arango and Caño Cristales design remains unchanged, so those small administrative details carry the variety.
