ThemeCultural Heritage

Two commemorative denominations place Croatia's currency anniversaries beside Istrian antiquity, Vukovar heritage and portraits drawn from different chapters of national history.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

The 2004 ten-kuna note retains Juraj Dobrila and the Croatian emblem, adding anniversary microtext and a latent 10 for the kuna and lipa's tenth year. The 2014 twenty-kuna note centres Count Josip Jelačić of Bužim, marking the currency's twentieth anniversary in a red-toned companion design.

Reverse

Pula Arena and the ground plan of Motovun complete the ten-kuna note's Istrian narrative. On the twenty-kuna piece, Eltz Manor in Vukovar stands beside the ceramic Vučedol dove, linking a restored historic residence with one of Croatia's best-known prehistoric objects. The paired reverses span Roman, early urban and archaeological heritage.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, this official presentation joins two anniversary notes issued a decade apart: the 10 kuna dated 30 May 2004 and the 20 kuna dated 30 May 2014. Up to 40,000 UNC sets were offered in special folders. Different governors signed the components, Željko Rohatinski on the earlier note and Boris Vujčić on the later one.
