Juraj Dobrila's portrait opens onto Pula's Roman arena and the hill-town plan of Motovun, binding Istrian identity to education and architecture.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

Bishop Juraj Dobrila appears in a finely modelled portrait beside Croatia's chequered state emblem. Brown, orange, green and blue ornament supports the Croatian inscriptions without crowding the likeness. A windowed thread demetalized with HRK 10 crosses the field, while Dobrila's portrait returns as the watermark.

Reverse

The Roman amphitheatre at Pula fills the architectural side, its surviving arcades rendered in layered linework. A ground plan of Motovun extends the view from antiquity to the fortified Istrian hill town. Together they turn the reverse into a compact map of regional memory, moving from monument to settlement.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, the 7 March 2001 date and Željko Rohatinski signature identify the first issue of this revised ten-kuna type. Recorded prefix and suffix combinations run from A/D to A/S, and the note entered circulation on 18 June 2001. These production markers separate it cleanly from the later 2012 Vujčić printing.
