ThemeCultural Heritage

Blue-black and red turn the Knin fortress into a severe backdrop for a ten-billion-dinara value at the peak of Serbian Krajina inflation.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

The fortress above Knin is set in blue-black and red, with Serbian Cyrillic text arranged around the vast 10,000,000,000-dinara denomination. Numerous zeros become the face's most forceful graphic element. The paper carries a Greek-key watermark but no security thread, preserving the series' otherwise consistent construction.

Reverse

Croatian text, a stylized vase and the Serbian state emblem occupy the back within red and dark ornamental framing. The vessel's balanced outline counters the exceptionally long denomination repeated across the field. Although the value changed dramatically, the reverse retained the same symbolic vocabulary as the lower 1993 notes.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, the ten-billion-dinara note is the culminating denomination of the 1993 reform series signed by Pavao Marjanović. It retained the A prefix and familiar Knin-and-vase design only months after six zeros had already been removed. Its scale anticipates the further redenomination imposed at the start of 1994.
