Brown and red-orange tones give Knin's fortress a stark prominence on a Serbian Krajina denomination shaped by accelerating inflation.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Knin's hilltop fortress stretches across the face in brown and red-orange engraving, framed by Serbian text and prominent 50,000-dinara numerals. The long horizontal silhouette suits the wide paper format, while the Greek-key watermark provides an understated security pattern. No security thread interrupts the printed scene.
Reverse
The reverse exchanges the fortress for a stylized vase, Croatian inscriptions and the Serbian state emblem. Curving vessel contours soften the rigid architecture of the face, while the denomination is repeated within geometric borders. Restrained ornament lets the two official languages remain clear despite the dense engraved ground.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, the A-prefix 50,000 dinara is part of the first redenominated Serbian Krajina issue of 1993, signed by Governor Pavao Marjanović. The reform effective 1 October replaced one million old dinars with one new dinar, yet denominations climbed quickly. Its position immediately above the 5,000-dinara value records that inflationary acceleration.
