Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Knin's fortified ridge remains the central image, rendered in brown-black and olive-grey beneath Serbian inscriptions. The enormous 500,000,000-dinara value presses against the narrow borders, making numerical scale part of the composition. A Greek-key watermark is the principal paper security feature, and no thread is present.
Reverse
The stylized vase and Serbian state emblem return beside Croatian-language wording, their compact forms surrounded by dense value numerals. Olive-grey shading gives the vessel a quiet solidity, contrasting with the visual pressure of nine digits. Geometric borders maintain continuity with the smaller denominations of the series.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, this A-prefix note shows how far the 1993 Serbian Krajina currency had inflated after six zeros were removed on 1 October. Pavao Marjanović signed the issue, and the design remained unchanged even as face values reached hundreds of millions. That tension between stable imagery and unstable denomination is central to the series.
