Design & Symbolism

Obverse

The Banco Nacional de Cuba seal with star, shield and laurels occupies a field of light brown, dark brown and green. Zigzag lines radiate from the centre, while a large D distinguishes the series from the earlier C certificates. No security thread or watermark interrupts the graphic structure.

Reverse

Spanish instructions and repeated one-peso values are arranged around blank lines for the payee's signature and stamped issue date. The open administrative field contrasts with the tightly patterned face. Rather than depicting a national scene, the reverse makes the certificate's controlled, holder-specific use part of its physical design.

For collectors, prefix FE identifies this 1991 one-peso certificate from the second Series D group. Its brown-green palette, large D and zigzag underprint separate it immediately from the blue-orange Series C one-peso issue. Printing by Impresos de Seguridad and the absence of any watermark also mark the later domestic production stage.
