ThemeMilitary & Historical Events

A reworked olive and blue-green field sharpens the familiar passage from Martí's portrait to the revolutionaries entering Havana.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

José Martí remains the central portrait, but newly engraved underprinting and larger, repositioned text distinguish the 2010 treatment. Olive green, blackish blue and yellow give the face a stronger tonal division around the bank logo and value. Célia Sánchez Manduley forms the watermark, accompanied by a solid PATRIA O MUERTE thread.

Reverse

The historical scene of Fidel Castro, Camilo Cienfuegos and rebels atop a tank continues across the back. Flags, rifles and the vehicle's forward direction carry the eye toward Havana, while the inscription names 8 January 1959. Revised underprinting changes the surrounding texture without altering the event that defines the reverse.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, 2010 begins the re-engraved phase of the one-peso type. Larger and repositioned inscriptions, altered colours and new underprinting provide visible distinctions from the 2009 predecessor, while Ernesto Medina Villaveirán remains the signatory. The broad GK-01 to GK-68 series range makes this an effective reference point when separating the two layouts.
