Darkened ornament gives Martí's portrait firmer definition before the reverse returns to the tank-borne entry into Havana.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

José Martí's portrait sits beside the Central Bank of Cuba logo within olive, blackish-blue and yellow engraving. The revised underprint introduced in the preceding year gives the Spanish lettering more space and weight. A Célia Sánchez Manduley watermark and solid thread with demetallized PATRIA O MUERTE complete the paper's security structure.

Reverse

Castro, Cienfuegos and other armed rebels appear with flags on a tank entering Havana on 8 January 1959. The figures form a crowded upper silhouette while the vehicle supplies the composition's long horizontal base. The named date and place keep the image tied to a specific moment rather than a generalized revolutionary emblem.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, the 2011 printing continues the revised one-peso layout under Ernesto Medina Villaveirán. Its GL-01 to GL-24 series range follows the much broader GK production of 2010, providing a straightforward chronological distinction even though the artwork and security features remain unchanged. It belongs to the compact sequence documenting the redesigned underprint before the next dated issue.
