Design & Symbolism
Obverse
The Banco Nacional de Cuba seal sits within a zigzag underprint that radiates across the blue and dark-green face. A large C retains the visual identity of the certificate series, while the hundred-peso value and Spanish text remain formally ordered. This later paper has neither a security thread nor a watermark.
Reverse
The denomination is repeated at the centre and corners around Spanish conditions and blank lines for the holder's signature and issue date. Broad unprinted areas make administrative completion visible rather than hiding it within ornament. Compared with the energetic face, the reverse is deliberately quiet and document-like.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, the 1991 hundred-peso certificate belongs to the second Series C group and carries prefix EA. Domestic printing by Impresos de Seguridad, a zigzag underprint and the absence of a watermark separate it from the 1987 Prague-printed certificates. Its high denomination and restricted-use purpose place it at the upper end of Cuba's foreign-exchange certificate system.
