Workers, soldier, rural dress and the eagle flag form a compact civic tableau on Egypt's last pre-demonetization ten-piastre type.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
A man carrying a hoe, a soldier with a rifle, a worker raising a wrench and two women in robes stand beside Egypt's eagle flag. The group replaces the two-star flag used on the preceding issue, turning the face into a direct statement of labour, defence and national identity. Arabic text and value devices remain integrated within the ornamental frame.
Reverse
English text naming the Arab Republic of Egypt occupies the reverse inside dense guilloche and a formal border. Repeated ten-piastre values anchor the corners, while the absence of a pictorial scene keeps attention on the state title and security engraving. The restrained reverse acts as a textual counterpart to the populated face.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, this eagle-flag revision belongs to the final years before Egypt demonetized piastre banknotes in July 1991. It connects late twentieth-century state imagery with the closing chapter of an older low-denomination paper tradition. The type therefore marks both a design revision and a monetary endpoint. Its modest denomination carries unusually strong historical closure.
