ThemeReligious Heritage

Warm engraving carries Al-Azhar Mosque into a short 1994 issue, paired with Ramesses II, papyrus ornament and ancient river imagery.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

Al-Azhar Mosque forms a long architectural band across the face, its domes and minarets modelled in pink, orange and green. Arabic inscriptions, serial numbers and value devices occupy the surrounding space without interrupting the skyline. A broad watermark reserve at the left gives the low denomination an open, balanced structure.

Reverse

A battle relief of Ramesses II is paired with the ruler's granite statue holding a heka crook. The prow of a reed boat, stylized papyrus flowers and a cartouche naming Ramesses II broaden the archaeological narrative beyond portraiture. English bank text closes the scene inside a dense ornamental border.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, the 25 August 1994 date falls three days before the latest listed date for this variety, 28 August 1994. That position gives the note useful late-date context beside the preceding variety. The documented date range supports chronology, but it does not establish the full duration or formal closing of the production stage.
