A denomination registration device updates the familiar meeting of Al-Azhar Mosque, Ramesses II and the symbolic world of the Nile.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

Al-Azhar Mosque extends through green, purple, yellow and orange engraving, accompanied by Arabic bank text and a denomination-shaped registration device. Domes and minarets occupy the architectural centre, while the watermark area and corner values balance the crowded field. The redesign is subtle, preserving the familiar character of Egypt's fifty-piastre note.

Reverse

A battle carving and granite statue present Ramesses II as warrior and ruler. Stylized papyrus, a reed-boat prow and a cartouche naming the pharaoh fill the spaces between, with English inscriptions and repeated values at the borders. The reverse is unchanged in spirit, condensing several ancient Egyptian references into one continuous archaeological panel.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, the 6 February 2017 note is dated one day before the latest listed date for this variety, 7 February 2017. Alongside the following day’s example, it forms an unusually close consecutive-date pair within an unchanged design. Its interest comes from documented chronology rather than a proven end-of-issue event.
