Al-Azhar Mosque and the many faces of Ramesses II close a short date sequence on this February 2017 note.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

Al-Azhar Mosque extends across a green, purple, yellow and orange field beneath Arabic bank text. A denomination-shaped registration device marks this 2017 issue, while the watermark reserve and dark corner values structure the composition. Domes, arcades and minarets remain the central image despite the added modern registration feature.

Reverse

Ramesses II appears in battle relief and as the granite statue holding a heka crook. Papyrus flowers, a reed-boat prow and the ruler's cartouche link the images beneath English text. The reverse gathers military, royal and river-associated motifs into a single archaeological panorama without relying on one dominant portrait.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, 7 February 2017 is the latest listed date for this variety. Paired with the 6 February example, it forms a consecutive-date set whose interest comes from chronology rather than any change in the underlying design. The catalogue endpoint should not be interpreted as evidence of a separately documented end-of-issue event.
