A Cairo mosque, pharaonic boat and winged scarab create a dense passage from Islamic architecture to ancient solar symbolism.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
The Amir Qijmas al-Ishaqi Mosque in Cairo rises behind Arabic bank text and an Eye of Horus registration device. Black, brown, blue and purple engraving gives the facade a monumental weight, while a broad windowed thread and green optical value device introduce modern security. The watermark field carries Akhenaten beside an electrotype 50.
Reverse
A pharaonic boat travels beneath a winged sun disc with snakes, accompanied by column tops from Edfu Temple and a winged scarab pushing the solar disc. The Eye of Horus reappears among English inscriptions and value devices. Together, the motifs turn the reverse into a compact sequence of river travel, kingship and solar rebirth.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, the note dated 31 July 2025 records Hassan Abdalla’s signature on Egypt’s established fifty-pound paper design. Its architectural and pharaonic imagery continued from earlier issues, so date and signatory provide the practical points of comparison. The variety offers a fixed late-series reference for comparing the long-running design across successive signature-and-date stages.
