ThemeWildlife

Shells, coral and a pennant coralfish crowd the blue-green reef, before an open pearl oyster draws attention to a smaller treasure.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

A pennant coralfish passes among coral, a nautilus and shells with very different contours. The long dorsal filament of the fish contrasts with the curling and pointed shell forms. Wallisian tapa patterns and paired fish hooks accompany this underwater gathering, connecting the marine subjects with objects and decoration made by people who live beside the sea.

Reverse

The open pearl oyster and humphead wrasse bring another scale and another set of textures to the reef subject. Shell motifs continue around the border, with Futunan siapo decoration linking this face to the broader family. A colour-changing fish sits among the imagery, so one of the note's protective details participates directly in the same aquatic scene.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, this 2024 variety updates the three signatures of the five-thousand-franc design first released in 2014. The year is a catalogue attribution, not a printed date. The Poussin-Delmas / Villeroy de Galhau / Foucault group identifies P-7(2), while its coral, shell and fish subjects make it the specifically marine member of the four-denomination family.
