Dark brown, orange and lilac engraving links old Tbilisi and Mount Mtatsminda with the medieval cave complex of Vardzia, continuing the architectural language of Georgia’s second 1993 coupon issue.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

The obverse combines a view of old Tbilisi with Mount Mtatsminda rising behind the city and the equestrian monument to King Vakhtang Gorgasali within the urban panorama. Georgian inscriptions and the ten-kuponi denomination are integrated into an ornate brown framework, while the serial and fractional prefix occupy the upper-right field above the cityscape.

Reverse

The reverse presents the Vardzia cave monastery carved into the Erusheti mountain near Aspindza, with its rock-cut chambers and monumental arched structure dominating the central field. Brown and orange geometric borders frame the landscape, while the denomination at right balances the architectural scene and preserves the strongly structured appearance shared across the series.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, the 10 Kuponi belongs to Georgia’s second 1993 coupon issue, which retained the familiar Tbilisi–Vardzia design while introducing the denominator 2 in the fractional prefix. This close relationship with the first series makes the two generations particularly suitable for side-by-side collecting, illustrating how minor attribution changes distinguished successive issues during Georgia’s brief kuponi period.
