Greenish-grey, orange and lilac engraving links old Tbilisi and Mount Mtatsminda with the medieval cave complex of Vardzia, continuing the architectural identity of Georgia’s second 1993 coupon issue.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
The obverse combines a view of old Tbilisi with Mount Mtatsminda rising behind the city and the equestrian monument to King Vakhtang Gorgasali within the urban panorama. Georgian inscriptions and the 100-kuponi denomination are integrated into an ornate greenish-grey framework, while the serial and fractional prefix occupy the upper-right field above the cityscape.
Reverse
The reverse presents the Vardzia cave monastery carved into the Erusheti mountain near Aspindza, with its rock-cut chambers and monumental arched structure dominating the central field. Greenish-grey and orange geometric borders frame the landscape, while the denomination at right balances the architectural scene and preserves the highly structured appearance shared across the issue.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, the 100 Kuponi is part of Georgia’s second 1993 coupon issue, in which the familiar Tbilisi–Vardzia design was retained while the fractional prefix changed to denominator 2. Its close visual relationship with both earlier and neighbouring denominations makes colour, value and prefix structure especially important when assembling a complete kuponi type set; a denominator-10 replacement form is reported separately but remains unconfirmed in the supplied catalogue source.
