Guernsey’s sea-green pound gathers the island’s civic memory into a compact frame: market awnings, court façades and the measured portrait of Daniel de Lisle Brock.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

The obverse centres the seal of the Bailiwick within olive branches, surrounded by intricate green, blue and violet engraving. Behind the denomination lies a view of Market Square in Saint Peter Port, populated by shoppers and tented stalls. The States of Guernsey title, payment promise and Bethan Haines’s signature complete the small but richly layered composition.

Reverse

The reverse pairs Daniel de Lisle Brock, Bailiff of Guernsey, with the Royal Court building and a historical Saint Peter Port street scene. The architecture and portrait are framed by Guernsey lily patterns, the island arms and compact ornamental borders, presenting public administration as part of the island’s wider urban memory.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, this Bethan Haines signature variety is catalogued as P-52d / B157d. Although the note itself is undated, the variety was introduced in 2016 and represents the final regular signature stage recorded for this long-running small-size one-pound design.
