Religious architecture links Qom with Jerusalem, moving from mosque and seminary imagery on the front to the Dome of the Rock on the reverse.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
The Beit al-Moghdas mosque and the Feyziye seminary in Qom form the paired architectural subjects of the obverse. Farsi inscriptions are worked around the two religious buildings, giving the front a strongly devotional identity. The green, red, and brown palette provides continuity between the illustration, typography and value numerals.
Reverse
Jerusalem’s Dome of the Rock becomes the sole architectural focus of the reverse, framed by English and Farsi inscriptions. Its distinctive sacred form creates a clear visual counterpart to the Qom imagery on the front. Its green, red, and brown tonality carries evenly through the subject, inscriptions and denomination markings.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, this 1,000-rial note is notable for building its identity almost entirely from sacred architecture. The movement from Qom to Jerusalem gives the design a wider religious geography and makes it a natural fit for collections focused on Islamic monuments and architectural themes on paper money.
