Dark blue and red contrast the Shrine of Fatima Masumeh in Qom with a modern oil refinery, moving from sacred architecture to industrial infrastructure.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
The Shrine of Fatima Masumeh in Qom provides the obverse’s architectural subject, set with Farsi inscriptions and the numeral 100 registration device. The religious monument gives the front a distinctly sacred identity. Colour is led by blue and red, extending from the main motif through the surrounding printed detail.
Reverse
A modern oil refinery occupies the reverse, accompanied by English and Farsi inscriptions and the numeral 100 registration device. The industrial scene forms a strong counterpoint to the sacred architecture on the front. A predominantly blue and red treatment gives the imagery and official lettering a consistent visual register.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, this issue stands out for the unusually direct contrast between sacred architecture and heavy industry. Moving from the shrine at Qom to a refinery on the reverse, it brings inherited cultural identity and the infrastructure of the modern economy into the same banknote narrative.
