Khomeini and the Kaaba remain the two visual anchors, with a puzzle-like denomination device threading through the pink, yellow and green design.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
The front places Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini beside Farsi inscriptions and the distinctive puzzle-like denomination registration device. The portrait stays visually dominant while the geometric feature introduces a recognisable secondary motif. The use of pink, yellow, and green creates a consistent ground for the illustration, official text and value figures.
Reverse
Mecca’s Kaaba is presented beneath English and Farsi inscriptions, accompanied by the corresponding denomination device. The repeated geometric element provides continuity between a portrait-based obverse and a strongly religious reverse. The printed field uses pink, yellow, and green to bind the central imagery to the monetary text around it.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, the continued use of the Khomeini-and-Kaaba design makes this later issue interesting as part of a long-running type rather than as a standalone redesign. A group of these notes illustrates how visual continuity can itself become an important feature of a country’s monetary identity.
