Qom’s Feyziye seminary and a broad Friday Prayer gathering face Tehran University, linking religious life with education across the note.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
The front brings together the Feyziye seminary in Qom and a large Friday Prayer gathering beneath Farsi inscriptions. A bird-and-flower registration device is integrated into the composition, adding a decorative counterpoint to the dense religious scene. The gray and olive green palette provides continuity between the illustration, typography and value numerals.
Reverse
Tehran University’s main entrance provides the reverse with a more formal architectural focus. English and Farsi inscriptions accompany the building, while the matching bird-and-flower registration device visually connects the two sides. The design is held together by gray and olive green tones that continue across image, text and denomination.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, this 500-rial design is unusually rich in institutional symbolism. Qom’s religious life and Tehran University place faith and education within the same note, making the issue particularly appealing in thematic collections that trace how modern Iranian currency represents public institutions and cultural identity.
