Iran 5000 Rials 2018, P-152c, UNC

Khomeini and floral ornament lead into an archaeological reverse, where ancient Iranian metalwork is enlivened by repeated running-deer imagery.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

Floral ornament and Farsi inscriptions surround Khomeini on the obverse. The warm brown and olive-green palette keeps the portrait visually prominent while maintaining continuity with the cultural imagery on the other side. A predominantly brown, olive green, and orange treatment gives the imagery and official lettering a consistent visual register.

Reverse

The reverse features an ancient bowl and platter ornamented with running deer, set alongside English and Farsi inscriptions. Their animal decoration gives the metalwork a lively visual rhythm and makes the archaeological subject the clear focus. Colour is led by brown, olive green, and orange, extending from the main motif through the surrounding printed detail.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, this later version keeps attention on ancient Iranian metalwork and its lively animal decoration. The design is a good reminder that cultural heritage on currency is not limited to famous buildings or historical figures; archaeological objects can carry an equally strong national story.
