ThemeCultural Heritage

Deep violet tones preserve the established pairing of Khomeini with Hafez’s verse and tomb, keeping the 50,000-rial note firmly rooted in literature.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

The front retains Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini, Farsi inscriptions and the numeral 5 registration device in a deep violet scheme. Its visual structure remains deliberately stable across the later varieties of the type. A violet palette carries from the principal motif into the surrounding typography and value markings.

Reverse

Calligraphy from Hafez’s Ghazal 11 and the Tomb of Hafez in Shiraz remain the reverse’s principal subjects. English and Farsi inscriptions and the numeral 5 registration device complete the unchanged literary design. The design is held together by violet tones that continue across image, text and denomination.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, the later continuation of the Hafez design is valuable for showing how literary imagery remained stable while the surrounding issue sequence moved forward. In a chronological set, it reinforces the idea that cultural continuity was an important part of the visual language of these modern denominations.
