A bright yellow design links Kashan’s Agha Bozorg Mosque with the Tomb of Ferdowsi in Tus, balancing architecture with Persian literary memory.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
The Agha Bozorg Mosque in Kashan is presented with Farsi inscriptions and the numeral 500 registration device. Its architecture dominates the bright yellow front and establishes a strong religious and cultural identity. The printed field uses yellow to bind the central imagery to the monetary text around it.
Reverse
The Tomb of Ferdowsi in Tus becomes the reverse’s principal monument, accompanied by English and Farsi inscriptions and the numeral 500 registration device. The memorial shifts the emphasis from sacred architecture to the legacy of Persian literature. Its yellow tonality carries evenly through the subject, inscriptions and denomination markings.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, this five-million-rial issue gives a very high denomination a strongly cultural identity. Agha Bozorg Mosque and the Tomb of Ferdowsi connect religious architecture with the memory of Persian epic literature, creating a design that feels rooted in heritage rather than defined by denomination alone.
