Purple engraving follows the three legs of Mann from Elizabeth II's portrait to the open ground and church at Tynwald Hill.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Elizabeth II is placed on the right, wearing Queen Victoria's collet necklace and a sash bearing royal orders. A large triskelion occupies the opposite side, superimposed on an outline of the Isle of Man. The three armoured legs are almost as prominent as the portrait in this purple composition.
Reverse
Tynwald Hill appears with its flag and cross, and St John's Church stands beyond it. The low ceremonial mound is the place where new laws are publicly promulgated during the annual Tynwald ceremony. Both church and hill are associated with this parliamentary occasion, giving the two landmarks a shared function in the scene.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-40c is the undated pound carrying Paul Mark Shimmin's signature and the AA prefix, introduced in November 2009. The year is an issue attribution rather than a date printed on the paper. It follows the Dawson and Cashen versions, allowing a compact signature sequence without a change to the main Manx imagery.
