ThemeScience & Medicine

Textbooks, a globe and pharmacy emblem lead toward Sahel camels, joining education and health with the realities of regional life.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

Textbooks and a chalk slate sit beside a globe centred on Africa, a red cross and the Bowl of Hygieia. The BCEAO sawfish figure anchors the front, while pink, orange and purple ornament keeps the educational and medical subjects distinct. Its watermark repeats the sawfish with an electrotype 1000.

Reverse

One dromedary stands while another kneels in the Sahel landscape of Burkina Faso. Their low silhouettes open the reverse after the crowded academic and medical imagery, leaving French text and the statutory notice around the edges. A solid security thread printed UMOA 1000 crosses the paper.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, country code A identifies this 2021 note as the Côte d'Ivoire issue of the shared BCEAO design. Sani Yaya and Tiémoko Meyliet Koné supply the signature pairing for the year. The code-date combination separates it from otherwise similar 1,000-franc notes circulating elsewhere in the West African monetary union.
