Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Sharif Hussein bin Ali appears on the right, with Hashemite silver coins struck in the Kingdom of the Hijaz in 1916 beside the inscriptions. The inclusion of actual coin designs connects his portrait with the earlier currency of Hashemite rule. Green and blue ornament surrounds the portrait and coinage.
Reverse
Three men ride camels beneath the flag of the Great Arab Revolt. A Renaissance medal and an antique Levantine compass accompany the group, their circular shapes set beside the mounted procession. Together with the Hijaz coins on the face, the flag and riders place the design within a specific Hashemite historical setting.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, the 2021 date belongs to a late printing of Jordan's fourth-series one-dinar note, signed by Mohamad al-Ississ and Ziad Fariz. The following series retains Sharif Hussein's portrait but replaces the revolt scene with different reverse imagery. Keeping the two designs separate avoids grouping distinct types simply because their principal sitter is unchanged.
