Petra's carved stone and a camel caravan cross an orange-red field, setting Abdullah I's portrait beside the architecture of desert travel.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
King Abdullah I is shown beside a view of Al Khazneh, Petra's Treasury, cut into the rock. Its columned façade is reproduced in miniature next to the much larger royal portrait. The orange field also carries a colour-shifting denomination and a crown registration motif, which aligns with printing on the reverse.
Reverse
A camel caravan accompanies an enlarged architectural detail from above the Treasury's pediment. The carved columns and upper ornament are shown more closely than in the complete façade on the front. Small travelling figures occupy the lower part of the red-orange composition, beneath the enlarged stonework.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, the printed year 2022 identifies the opening five-dinar variety of Jordan's fifth series, released in 2023. It bears the al-Ississ–Fariz signatures; the later 2025 printing changes the pair. The redesigned Petra imagery belongs to the new series even though Abdullah I remains the denomination's portrait subject.
