ThemePortraits & People

Suinbai Aronuly's portrait opens into the ridges and river country of Alatau, pairing poetic voice with the geography that shaped it.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

Kazakh poet and improvisational singer Suinbai Aronuly appears in green and grey engraving, his portrait framed by Kazakh text and restrained ornament. The solid security thread runs through a back-to-back E-pattern watermark. Portrait, script and denomination are closely balanced within the compact 124-millimetre paper format.

Reverse

Mountains, forest and a river in the Alatau region extend across the back beneath the national emblem. The scene opens the design beyond portraiture, using layered ridgelines and water to create distance within a small field. Green engraving links the landscape to the face and turns regional geography into a setting for cultural memory.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, the printed 1993 date belongs to Kazakhstan's inaugural portrait series, while this domestic Banknote Factory production followed in 1995. Prefixes from AP to AU identify the later printing and separate it from the Harrison & Sons run. That combination of original date and later manufacture is the central attribution point for the variety.
