Violet and pale blue ornament gives Kazakhstan's smallest paper money a crisp beginning, with value and state emblem kept deliberately apart.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
An ornate five-tiyn denomination is enclosed within a circular device, surrounded by Kazakh text and closely woven violet, light-blue and yellow patterning. There is no portrait or landscape to interrupt the compact arrangement. The paper carries a snowflake-pattern watermark and no security thread, matching the intentionally simple construction of the low value.
Reverse
Kazakhstan's national emblem occupies the reverse beneath Kazakh lettering and repeated value figures. Its circular form echoes the denomination device on the face, creating continuity across an otherwise spare design. Fine guilloche holds the emblem within the small format and gives the first paper tiyn series a clear state identity.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, the five-tiyn note belongs to the paper fractional currency introduced with the tenge on 15 November 1993. These low values were soon displaced by coins, giving the series a short practical role in Kazakhstan's monetary transition. The snowflake watermark and lack of a signature are the most useful checks for this listed variety.
