ThemePortraits & People

Toktogul Satylganov's green-violet portrait faces the high slopes of Khan Tengri, setting poetic memory against enduring mountain scale.

Design & Symbolism

Obverse

Poet Toktogul Satylganov is rendered in green and violet within a formal frame of Kyrgyz text and hundred-som values. His likeness forms the watermark beside an electrotype 100. A windowed thread with demetallized 100 COM lettering crosses the paper and gives the larger denomination a distinct technical identity.

Reverse

Khan Tengri rises across the back, its summit and surrounding ridges opening the composition into a broad mountain view. Fine tonal engraving separates snow, rock and distance while Kyrgyz inscriptions remain close to the margins. The landscape provides a monumental counterweight to Toktogul's portrait without turning the reverse into decorative scenery.

Collector’s Insight

For collectors, this hundred-som issue entered circulation on 15 August 2002 with Ulan Sarbanov's signature and BA to BD prefixes. Its denomination-specific thread and portrait-plus-electrotype watermark place it firmly within the third series. Collected beside the twenty-som companion, it shows how a shared security system supported very different cultural and geographic subjects.
