Togolok Moldo's ochre portrait turns toward the Mausoleum of Manas, linking written culture with the country's epic inheritance.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Writer, poet and educator Togolok Moldo occupies the face in ochre and red, framed by Kyrgyz inscriptions and denomination figures. His portrait reappears in the watermark beside an electrotype 20. A windowed thread with demetallized 20 COM lettering gives the compact paper a clear, denomination-specific security feature.
Reverse
The Mausoleum of Manas extends across the back in warm red-brown engraving. Its portal and brick walls bring architectural permanence after the personal focus of the face, while Kyrgyz text and values remain carefully spaced around the monument. The pairing connects a modern literary figure with the much older epic tradition associated with Manas.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, the twenty-som note entered circulation on 15 August 2002 as part of Kyrgyzstan's third series. Ulan Sarbanov's signature, BA to BE prefixes and the 20 COM windowed thread establish the issue. It also forms a useful design comparison with the 1993 five-som note, which uses the same mausoleum but a simpler threadless construction.
