Mechanized farm work fills the front, while a clinic scene on the reverse shifts attention from production to public health. Green printing keeps the two very different subjects visually coherent.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Workers operate a grain-threshing machine in a field as electrical power towers rise behind them, creating a scene of mechanized rural production. Lao inscriptions and denomination elements are arranged around the central activity. The layout balances official lettering with the human subject, preserving both narrative detail and monetary clarity.
Reverse
A clinic scene fills the reverse: nurses attend to babies held by seated women while other staff prepare medicine nearby. Lao inscriptions surround the figures, turning the reverse into a compact depiction of community healthcare. Value numerals occupy the remaining field without distracting from the figures or the event they represent.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, this modest 1-kip note is an important entry point into the Pathet Lao “Liberation” currency, first circulated in 1968 in areas controlled by the movement. After 1975 the series was accepted nationwide, giving this small denomination a direct connection to Laos’s transition from monarchy to the Lao People’s Democratic Republic.
