A medical clinic occupies one side; soldiers preparing bamboo booby-traps beside Wat That Luang occupy the other. Printed in red, the note places civilian care and wartime struggle in unusually direct opposition.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Nurses tend to patients inside a medical clinic, filling the front with a tightly grouped public-health scene. Lao inscriptions and denomination markings frame the figures without overpowering the narrative. A red scheme keeps the separate pictorial and monetary elements within a single visual field.
Reverse
Soldiers prepare bamboo booby-traps beside Wat That Luang in Vientiane, combining a wartime activity with one of Laos’s best-known landmarks. Lao inscriptions and denomination elements complete the scene. Monetary text is kept around the margins, allowing the group of figures to carry the narrative emphasis.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, this note belongs to the Pathet Lao “Liberation” kip, a parallel currency that circulated in insurgent-held areas before the communist victory of 1975. It is especially evocative of the civil-war period because the series framed public welfare, labor and armed struggle as parts of the same revolutionary program.
