Saida’s Sea Castle and Mseilha Fort make this 25-livre note strongly architectural, with fortified ruins and historic bridges defining both sides.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
The remains of the 13th-century Citadel at Sea stand beside a mosque in the port of Saida. Arabic inscriptions occupy the surrounding space while the coastal fortress remains the visual focus. Tones of brown, yellow, orange, purple, and blue unify the pictorial subject, lettering and repeated indicators of value.
Reverse
A stone footbridge leads toward the ruins of the 17th-century Mseilha Fort on its rocky setting in Batroun. Arabic and French inscriptions complete the scene. The printed field uses brown, yellow, orange, purple, and blue to bind the central imagery to the monetary text around it.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, this 1983 issue belongs to the last phase of the large-format heritage series while Lebanon was already in the civil war. Its fortified coastal and mountain architecture gives the note a particularly strong sense of place without relying on portraits or political symbolism.
