Two crested lapwings stand against pale orange paper, their dark heads and slender legs giving this small talonas its character.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
A flowering branch stretches across the brown-orange field, accompanied by the Vytis shield and a large denomination numeral. The plant, mounted knight and lettering are arranged within simple rectangular divisions. Unlike the portrait designs of the restored litas, this provisional note pairs a botanical subject with the national emblem.
Reverse
A pair of Eurasian lapwings occupies the centre of the reverse. Their upright crests, contrasting plumage and thin legs remain clearly defined in the small engraving. There is little surrounding scenery: the birds themselves, standing side by side against a pale ground, supply the principal detail of this compact design.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, P-39 should be distinguished from the larger 1991 one-talonas note with lizards. The 1992 redesign replaces those reptiles with lapwings and reduces the format substantially. It belongs to Lithuania's temporary-currency period before the restored litas; both versions were withdrawn in July 1993, making them useful companions in a denomination-based sequence.
