Heavy bunches of fruit crowd the green face, while palms open onto a distant steamship on the yellow-toned reverse.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Bananas, pineapples, papaya and coconuts gather beside the English promise of payment by the Japanese Government. Dark leaves frame the lighter denomination area, with individual fruit and stems closely engraved in green. The inscription identifies the occupation authority, while the illustrated produce gives the note its familiar tropical appearance.
Reverse
Palms stand along a coast, with a steamship visible offshore inside the central vignette. Broad ornamental curves and large 10 numerals surround the yellow-toned seascape. Unlike the close study of fruit on the face, this view extends beyond the foreground palms to the small vessel near the horizon.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, the slanted strokes of the MP block letters identify P-M7c, the 1944 variety without a numerical serial number. Straight-stroked MP also occurs on the preceding variety, so the letters alone are insufficient. This distinction belongs to the production sequence of Japanese occupation currency, rather than to a redesign of the familiar fruit-and-ship imagery.
