Cool green engraving joins Hidalgo and Morelos on the front, then stretches into the dry volcanic landscape of El Pinacate and the Gran Desierto de Altar.
Design & Symbolism
Obverse
Miguel Hidalgo and José María Morelos appear together beneath the Banco de México monogram, with a green SPARK denomination feature providing the main modern security accent. Their paired portraits give the front an unmistakable independence-era focus. The image is set among Spanish inscriptions and repeated value markings that identify the note’s monetary function.
Reverse
The reverse opens onto the scrub and desert ecosystem of the El Pinacate and Gran Desierto de Altar Biosphere Reserve. Low vegetation, open ground and volcanic terrain replace portraiture with a broad view of northern Mexico’s arid natural heritage. Its green tonality carries evenly through the subject, inscriptions and denomination markings.
Collector’s Insight
For collectors, the denomination is a clear expression of the historical structure behind Mexico’s modern family of notes: the front is devoted to independent Mexico, while the reverse anchors that national narrative in a UNESCO-listed desert ecosystem.
